What Is Cryopen?

Cryopen is a handheld device that uses cryotherapy to remove skin tags, warts, and other skin lesions. Cryotherapy is the use of extreme cold to freeze and destroy abnormal tissue. The Cryopen device uses a fine jet of nitrous oxide gas to freeze and remove skin tags without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue. The treatment is safe, painless, and requires no anaesthesia.

How CryoPen™ Device Works?

CryoPen™ deploys disposable cartridges of liquefied N2O to deliver quick, effective cryotherapy treatments to benign skin lesions. Nitrous oxide destroys tissues by freezing the intercellular fluid and forming ice shards and crystals that rupture the cell’s membrane, destroying the cells. The ultra-cold jet of N2O cuts off the blood supply during the freezing process, ensuring the client’s safety during the procedure. Because it delivers N2O directly onto the lesion and not the healthy surrounding tissue, it can safely treat lesions on the face and around the delicate eye area. CryoPen™ accurately delivers an ultra-cold, high-pressure N2O jet directly onto the lesion, making it very effective. It is also very fast, with a penetration rate of 1mm per 5 seconds and able to penetrate to a depth of 5mm deep.

Treatments With CryoPen™

CryoPen treats benign skin lesions on the surface of the skin, many of which are no longer able to be treated by doctors under the NHS, due to their cosmetic nature. It can treat lesions on the face, scalp and body including:

What to Expect During Cryotherapy?

During cryotherapy, the Cryopen device is applied to for example a skin tag, and a fine jet of nitrous oxide gas is sprayed onto the tag. The skin tag will freeze and turn white, and then the device is removed. There may be a slight stinging or burning sensation during the procedure, but it is generally painless. The procedure takes only a few minutes, and there is no downtime or recovery period.

Is Cryotherapy Safe?

Cryotherapy is a FDA approved and CE registered device making it a safe and effective treatment. The procedure is non-invasive and does not require anaesthesia. The treatment is generally painless, although there may be some discomfort during the procedure. It is also faster and less likely to leave a scar than other methods of skin tag removal. Cryotherapy with Cryopen is a safe and effective procedure with minimal risks or side effects. The most common side effect is redness and swelling at the site of treatment, which usually resolves within a few hours. In rare cases, blistering or scarring may occur, but this is very uncommon.

Is Cryopen treatment painful?

Any discomfort with CryoPen Therapy is relatively minimal and fleeting. You will likely experience a slight stinging nettle-type sensation during treatment. This is caused by the nitrous oxide striking its target and only lasts a few seconds. However, some residual stinging may persist for a minute or two afterwards, which is perfectly natural.

How long does the treatment take to work?

Over time, the cells targeted in cryotherapy sessions will shrivel and die. It typically takes a few weeks for you to enjoy the final result, but this can vary depending on the size and type of the lesion that you want removed. For example, skin tags turn black at the base and normally drop off after four weeks.

What is the downtime?

During the recovery period, as described above, you may experience some minor side-effects while the skin heals. These usually include sensitivity in the treated area and possible minor blistering, the latter of which can last for anything between a few hours to a few days.
